SteelSeries Prime Mini Wireless eSports Mouse Review

Performance

This mouse is decked out in flagship hardware to deal with the extreme demands of the eSports market. So it comes as little surprise that it’s one of the best mice I’ve ever used. What really strikes me is the click response, it’s certainly one of the most unique feeling mice I’ve ever used. The Prestige Optical Magnetic switches use a steel torsion spring, held in place by a specially milled neodymium magnet. Basically, the magnet ensures that every click actuates with the same amount of force every time. A spring would wear out over time, the magnet will not. Either way, it feels and sounds fantastic, perhaps a little louder than most, but I like that. Also, with an optical sensor rather than a mechanical one, durability and response times are exceptional.

The ergonomics of this mouse felt a little strange to me, but I do tend to use a flat grip and I do have large hands. However, after a few hours, I slowly shifted to a more fingertip/claw grip and really started to push the benefits of such a lightweight and nimble mouse.

It’s very easy to move and the sensor is just fantastically smooth. Plus, it uses a tilt tracking system so that you don’t get unwanted movement from the sensor when lifting the mouse.

The shape means your fingers always feel like they’re right on the trigger too, and I think they’ve done a great job of getting feedback from the pros to tune the ergonomics of this mouse. It’s not drastically smaller than the full-size one, but you can really feel the difference, and it feels great!

Those clicks are premium though, you can fire off truly staggering CPI thanks to the swift return rate. It never feels sloppy, it never double clicks or skips a beat. Expect to see a LOT more of these switches in future SteelSeries models as they’re going to be extremely popular.
