Super Mario Wonder is Already Playable in 4K/60 on PC Emulators

Well, there was plenty of talk about how Nintendo was going to introduce copy protection to prevent PC emulation, and they’ve either done that or done about as good a job as any other copy protection on gaming these days. Not only is the game already playable on PC with graphics settings far surpassing that of the Nintendo Switch, but the game isn’t even bloody out yet on the Nintendo Switch… seriously, I’m pretty impressed that this has been done so fast!

Obviously, the word emulation and the fact that the game isn’t out yet puts a big illegal red flag on this one. If you have a legal copy of the game, emulation isn’t illegal, but it’s pretty obvious people are rocking some illegitimately sourced copies to do this. With that in mind, no, I won’t be telling you how to source a copy. Just to keep Nintendo off my back, I’m not going to link the emulators either, but they’re easy enough to Google anyway.

The game leaked early, hitting the web about a week ago, and since then, both the Yuzu and the RyujinX emulators have proven capable of running the game. I must admit, I owned both the new Zelda games on the Switch, but given I could play them in ultrawide high-refresh rate, and with a bunch of mods, I did find myself emulating them and completing them on PC. I’ll be buying my kids Super Mario Wonder for Christmas (don’t tell them…) and suspect I’ll be doing my playthrough on PC as a result too.

Both Yuzu and RyujinX are free emulators, but I think some versions are behind a Patreon for the latest updates, but it doesn’t appear these updates are required. This is only the start too, as I’m sure the development community will make the game run better, look better, and add a plethora of medications in the coming weeks just like they did for games like Pokemon and Zelda… I’m looking at you, giant library of Amiibo codes folder that I have!
