Team Group Xtreem LV DDR3 2600MHz 8GB Memory Kit Review

Memory has been a bit of a weird one for us lately, as we keep seeing some lesser known brands join the enthusiast market with Topower, Avexir and now Team Group and from what we’ve seen today, these new brands aren’t to be reckoned with, that’s for sure.

Not knowing much about Team Group in the enthusiast sector in the UK, we went into this review blind and had no idea as to how things would perform on any level, but it seems that from all of our testing, we got some of the best results we’ve ever seen in our labs and that’s gracefully welcomed to the marketplace.

The design of the modules is a bit hit and miss to say the least, as lots of similar brands on the market are offering almost similar performance but using a much shorter heatspreader which for the extreme market is a big thing as larger CPU coolers are generally used and obstruction can be a bit of a tricky thing as many forum users will moan about across the world.

Styling aside, the stock performance of these modules is nothing short of amazing and the overclockability really does shine out with this particular kit. By looking at both angles of overclocking (using stock timings and auto) we managed to push this memory past our expectations and saw a large jump in bandwidth across a variety of areas, all without touching the voltages or doing much work at all for that matter. We had to change a few simple settings to push the speed up, but the timings remained untouched throughout most of it and that’s a great selling point for novice users wanting to learn a bit more about overclocking and pushing their hardware to the limits.

Team Group, at least in the UK aren’t exactly everywhere, but certain retailers do have stock in abundance selling different speeds, and capacities but sadly the 2600MHz 8GB kit that we looked at today doesn’t seem to be in the UK yet, but hazarding a guess at pricing, based on the other sku’s available; you’ll going to be looking around the £150 mark, based on the price of the 2400MHz and 2666MHz kits retailing at £120 and £200 respectfully.

When we were offered this kit for review, we were a bit reluctant as we’re used to bigger brands in the market segment such as G.Skill, Corsair and Kingston, but it just goes to show that with the right IC’s and technology invested into a memory module kit, some great results can be had and that was proved to us all today and we’re definitely keen to see what else Team Group can come up with in the future, especially knowing that they have a 3000MHz kit available, but the price is something to consider too.

Overall though, Team Group have done an amazing job here today and we saw some strong performance all round and for the speed of the kit, the pricing that we predict falls in line with other similarly targeted modules from rival brands and we’d be happy to recommend this to anyone needing 2600MHz memory.
