Recently, the computer industry has lost a very valuable member once more, one without whom I may not be able to report it today, Dennis Ritchie.
While the name may sound familiar, what is most known today is his legacy, the C Programming Language. Of course, this will not be the only thing we will remember about him, but it was one of his biggest achievements and he also is the author of the book by the same name (“The C Programming Language”).
Ritchie was also the co-developer of UNIX along Ken Thompson, and he has also received many awards for his achievements, notably a Turing Award (celebration of the contribution of a technical nature to the field of computer science) but also the U.S. National Medal of Technology (can be seen given to him by former President Clinton).
Just as Steve Jobs was one of the most recognized man of his field, Dennis Ritchie earns the same kind of respect, as his invention is one of the many basis of computer nowadays.
Dennis Ritchie, your legacy has served us all, and it will continue to do so, may you rest in peace.
