Thermaltake Toughpower Grand RGB 750w PSU Review

A Closer Look

Surprisingly for a power supply, this carries a rather nice aesthetic out of the box. Admittedly, power supplies have never been the most attractive feature of a PC. For this, however, the ‘Toughpower’ branding has always had something of an ‘all business’ approach about it.

While it does have some branding on it, the real highlight Thermaltake wants to grab your attention with is the RGB lighting. This is, in no small part, highlighted in the RGB writing itself being multicoloured.

The rear of the power supply has some nice large vents which should, hopefully, allow for some good air flow. In addition to this, however, you also have the main control switches for the power, the smart zero fan and the manual RGB lighting control.

The power input bank is very nicely organised with ‘back to back’ connections. This also comes with a sync port and a manual on/off switch for the RGB control. Which each of the ports clearly labelled, this will be a great help to both new and experienced PC builders.

Finally, the top of the power supply has the Thermaltake branding to the centre with a nice ‘solid’ design aesthetic. On the whole, this power supply certainly looks like it means business!

Cabling

The cables have a reasonably nice flexible feel about them. This means that getting them where you want them will prove no difficulty. Given the amount you are provided with as well, unless you have some kind of supercomputer with several graphics cards and hard drives, you should have more than enough with plenty left over!

RGB Sync!

This particular model is part of the Thermaltake RGB sync edition. As such, the power supply is fully capable of being supported by the manor motherboard manufacturers RGB sync lighting. With ASUS, MSI and Gigabyte on board, you can expect this to play a pretty major role in your lighting coordination!

Internals

At an initial glance, the internals of the Thermaltake Toughpower Grand RGB is exceptionally well presented. Everything looks clean, tidy, and well presented. Pretty much exactly what you want to see!

A closer look at the main interior shows that all components are really well spaced out. Thermaltake, as always, has clearly put more than a little thought into this design.

With this having 100% Japanese capacitors, it is, of course, important to check them out. In this regard, the main capacitor itself is a Rubycon design. A brand which is very well-known (for good reasons) and is also Japanese. Rated to 105c, this is both exactly what you want to see and one of the better capacitor designs out there!

Finally, we come to the fan. This, in itself, is note worthy as it is one Thermaltakes patented RGB ‘Riing’ designs. We have checked these fans out extensively in the past and have never failed to be impressed not only with their performance, but the light show they have to offer!
