Fan Speed

The Thermaltake Toughpower Grand Series RGB power supply has both a standard fan mode and a hybrid mode. While on the standard mode the fan does generally tend to run faster, it’s speed increases are a lot more consistent than in hybrid mode. Peaking out at around 850rpm, the fan in this power supply is clearly no slouch, but in terms of noise, this is well within acceptable levels and should not intrude significantly on overall system levels.

In terms of the hybrid mode, this can often be difficult to test with consistency. As the hybrid mode only works when temperatures require, it can provide ‘spikes’ in fan operational speed. While the fan did overall operate at a lower speed in hybrid mode, there is clearly, as the chart shows, a point where the fan just runs at a seemingly consistent level. While this is a good 200rpm lower at full load it will be for users to decide if this is going to be a factor on their system that is important. Personally, I’d rather have the slightly higher speeds in the safe, but boring, knowledge that a consistent output is being given.
