Thermaltake Toughpower Grand Series RGB 650w PSU Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

The Thermaltake Toughpower Grand Series RGB 650w power supply retails for around £85. For a Gold standard power supply, this is some excellent value. Particularly with the unusual lighting effects that this provides. I do, however, generally tend to feel that 650w power supplies can sometimes fall into the grey area of whether it’s better to spend a little more and get something with a little more punch. Despite that, for a gold rated power supply that has the performance under testing to back it up, it’s hard to argue with the price here.

Overview

Thermaltake has attempted the somewhat unusual here in attempting to make a power supply aesthetically pleasing. I am somewhat surprised to say that they did actually achieve this. I would add that I’m not surprised that they did it, I was just surprised that it was possible in the first place. In terms of looks and performance, the Thermaltake Toughpower Grand Series RGB power supply is near faultless.

Efficiency and Beyond

While the figures provided were not quite as good under our testing as they were on the box, this is still, very legitimately, a gold rated power supply. Performance peaks are found under average load which in itself isn’t usual, however, this does also hold some strong consistency even when pushed to full load or beyond.

Should I Buy One?

You are not exactly struggling in terms of finding yourself gold-rated power supplies. Should you consider this one though? I think you should. Not only does it have the looks and performance, there are also a lot of other key features in regards to this power supply. These include the Japanese capacitors, excellent design and that 10-year warranty to give you peace and mind that this is a power supply made to last.

With this being a fully-modular power supply, that’s gold rated and looks fantastic (regardless of your opinion of RGB) this is an excellent overall package.
