Toshiba Unveils 3D NAND TR200 SSDs

Toshiba is releasing its first retail 3D NAND SATA solid state drives. In fact, the TR200 SSDs use the company’s proprietary 64-layer BiCS3 3D TLC NAND. Consequently, the entry-level TR200 range is Toshiba’s successor to the OCZ Trion range. Indeed, the TR200 replaces the TR150 (aka Trion 150). However, Toshiba is still retaining the OCZ range, at least for the time being. The TR200 range boasts healthy sequential read and write speeds of 550MBps and 525MBps, respectively. Also, the SSDs offer both low power and cost savings since they don’t rely on demanding DRAM. Finally, the TR200 range comes in capacities between 240GB and 960GB.

Specifications

  • Capacity: 240GB to 960GB
  • NAND: 64-Layer 3D TLC
  • Sequential Read: 550MB/s
  • Sequential Write: 525MB/s
  • 4KB Random Read: 80k IOPS
  • 4KB Random Write: 87k IOPS

Toshiba Says

“Toshiba TR200 SSDs are an easy and affordable way to enhance notebook or desktop experiences by increasing system responsiveness and productivity over traditional hard disk drives (HDDs).  With a 6Gbit/s SATA interface, the TR200 series is rated for sequential read/write speeds of up to 550 MB/s and 525 MB/s and random read/write performances of up to 80,000 and 87,000 input/output operations per second (IOPS). In addition to excellent SATA performance, TR200 SSDs provide low power consumption that translates into a longer battery life for on-the-go users.”

“Enhanced Real World Performance and Value to Customers”

Alex Mei, Vice President of Consumer SSDs and Storage Outbound Marketing at Toshiba America, said:

“We are excited to provide consumers with the new TR200 series, our first retail branded SATA 6Gbit/s drives to leverage state-of-the-art Toshiba 64-layer TLC BiCS FLASH. Seeking to provide enhanced real world performance and value to customers, the TR200 SSDs were engineered from the ground up utilizing the latest 3D flash memory technology to be a cost-effective and power-optimized storage solution for desktop and mobile upgraders, gamers, and system builders.”

Price and Availability

The Toshiba TR200 series is available this Autumn/Fall. However, pricing is currently unknown.
