Turtle Beach Recon 150 Gaming Headset Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The Turtle Beach Recon 150 Gaming Headset is available from most major stores for around £49.99. It’s currently available in two versions, one for PS4 and PC, which is the one we reviewed today. It is also available in an Xbox One version for the same price.

Overview

When it comes to budget priced headsets, you’re not short on options. Turtle Beach themselves have seemingly endless numbers of headsets for around £30-60. At £50, the Recon 150 isn’t going to break the bank, and the fact it uses a 3.5mm jack makes it widely compatible with almost any audio device on the market. Multi format support certainly adds to the value for money, especially for gamers with many devices.

Build Quality

Is this the best build headset in the world? Not really, but it’s certainly not bad either. Turtle Beach do use a lot of plastic, but they’re very well made, lightweight, and durable too. They’re also very nicely designed in terms of ergonomics, and the headset does look pretty sleek and professional. While I would have liked softer padding, the hard-wearing stuff does wear in after a bit of use, and it’ll last longer before deteriorating too.

Big Sound

Turtle Beach have fitted this headset with some really good drivers, and that’s where most of your budget is going here. They’re powerful, punchy and offer up plenty of detail that’s great for gaming, movies and music alike. The microphone is nothing fancy, but it gets the job done nicely and the fact that it’s completely detachable is always welcome too.

Pros

  • Light weight design
  • Detachable microphone
  • Good build quality
  • Powerful drivers
  • Trusted brand name
  • Multiformat support
  • Competitive price

Cons

  • Hard wired audio cable

Neutral

  • Padding is a little hard-wearing

“If you’re looking for a powerful and affordable gaming headset, the Recon 150 is certainly competitive. Another welcome addition to the Turtle Beach range.”
