Ubisoft To Team up With UK Police To Tackle Toxic Gamers

We’ve all encountered a toxic gamer here and there usually our mothers have as well, though following a report from the BBC, it seems as though Ubisoft is looking to take tackling the issue of toxic gamers to a whole new level. Ubisoft has signed a “first-of-its-kind” deal with the UK police to tackle the issue of toxic gamers. This deal sees specialist officers within the Northumbria Police working with the 200-person team working at the Ubisoft Customer Relationship Centre in Newcastle to share their knowledge on harmful interactions online and to be able to fast-track serious issues to the police.

Damien Glorieux, Director of the Newcastle-based Ubisoft Customer Relationship centre, had this to say; “We wanted to focus on the most extreme cases, make sure we do the right thing there because it gives us a solid foundation to build the rest of our work around.” so don’t worry you won’t be getting arrested for shouting at your friends for crashing you off the road in a GTA race because if that was the case, everyone who attends the eTeknix Patreon game night would be getting a visit from the old bill.

At the moment less than 0.01% of cases dealt with had required police attention and with gaming being a global environment you may be wondering about cases outside of the UK. Well, Ubisoft were able to act on a case in Norway and Northumbria Police were able to have Norweigan authorities involved when an issue hit their threshold for intervention.

Gaming Toxicity is a very serious issue and Ubisoft is one of the only companies I’ve seen tackling it head-on, not only with this but with some of the prevention tools they’ve introduced into Rainbow Six Siege.

Personally, I feel some of the keyboard warriors do need a kick up the arse, especially in competitive games such as shooters so I’m fairly fond of this idea so long as people aren’t being arrested for the odd insult here and there.
