Using Console Commands in Fallout 4 Could Corrupt Your Save Files

I’m not a big fan of cheating in games myself, but even I have to admit that console commands have their uses, particularly when they allow us to discover secret locations or secret items. That being said, I should warn you that what I’m about to say might spoil the game for you slightly. The PC version of Fallout 4 has its own console, which allows players to teleport to a secret developer room that is filled with every single item in the game. Similar rooms were also included in older Bethesda titles such as Skyrim and Oblivion, and even though it’s definitely tempting to visit it in Fallout 4, it appears that this endeavor is actually quite risky, as Bethesda has recently warned players that using console commands could lead to corrupted save files.

A Twitter user asked Bethesda marketing manager Pete Hines if the in-game console would make its way to the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One versions of the game, and Pete responded that ” Use of the console is not supported or recommended on PC. That kind of thing isn’t permitted on consoles anyway.” Apparently, using the console “can very easily mess up save games,” and you really don’t want that to happen to you in a game that requires a considerable amount of time in order to be played properly.

However, console commands have enabled a modder named “xxdeathknight77xx” to discover a very cool hidden harpoon gun that replaces the game’s Railway Rifle. Ammo for the weapon can also be obtained using console commands, and since bubbles actually come out of the harpoons when they are fired, the weapon might be a part of a future DLC that could involve water-based combat. Clearly, using the game’s console can lead to a lot of fun, but maybe it’s a good idea to backup your saves before doing something that you’ll regret later.
