Valve Bans 40k Accounts For Cheating in Dota 2

Yesterday I reported on Bungie taking cheat creators to court and winning a hefty amount of money from the cheat developers and today I have another win for us honest players. Valve has announced that they have banned over 40,000 accounts from Dota 2 that were found to be using third-party cheats.

It was found that the cheaters were using software that enabled them to access information used internally by the Dota client that wasn’t visible during gameplay to give themselves an unfair advantage. Not only has valve banned these cheaters they have also released a patch to ensure that this specific method of cheating cannot be used again. The battle against cheaters is never ending and often happens hidden behind the scenes but Valve wants to make this one public and send a clear message:

“If you are running any application that reads data from the Dota client as you’re playing games, your account can be permanently banned from playing Dota. This includes professional players, who will be banned from all Valve competitive events.”

I wonder if Valve will go as far as Bungie and also attempt to take the developers of third-party cheats to court. Let us know what you think in the comments.
