Valve Unveiling New VR Games in 2017

Valve has revealed that it will be unveiling a number of new virtual reality games next year at the company’s annual Steam Dev Days. While this year’s Steam Dev Days event focused on hardware, Valve’s Greg Coomer told attendees that the 2017 event will see some major VR software announcements.

“Although we’re not going to treat dev days this year as the place or the time to make big product announcements related to the content we have in development at Valve for virtual reality, I do think that once it comes time to do that next year that nobody in this room is going to be disappointed about what we have in the works,” Coomer said in a Periscope video.

Valve also unveiled its new motion controllers for its HTC Vive VR headset at this year’s Steam Dev Days. The prototype controllers on show at the event are designed to be held in an open hand via straps.

To facilitate its future VR projects, Valve has invested in Nitero, a company developing a 60Ghz wireless VR solution. According to Nitero Co-Founder and Vice President Sven Mesecke, Nitero’s tech “is a robust, low latency, solution that has been crafted for VR” which comprises a 60Ghz wireless transfer transmitter and an encoding protocol which protects against drops in latency.
