Viper V551 Optical RGB Gaming Mouse Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Viper should be available from most major retailers for just £34.99. That’s crazy value for money for a mouse with this level of features and performance. It’s hard to find a bad mouse from the named brands these days, they’re all very competitive. However, when it comes down to price, Viper has a really strong competitor on their hands here.

Overview

As I was saying, you would have to look pretty damn hard these days to find a bad gaming mouse. Pretty much anything from the last few years seem to be pretty solid. Sensor quality has improved immensely most of all. Go back 7+ years, cheap mice had cheap sensors, jittery performance, angle snapping, acceleration issues. These days, the new PixArt sensors are sublime and the Viper V551 benefits greatly from it.

Control

At its core, this feels like a fairly standard mouse, it’s got a natural feeling grip and it is easy to use. However, Viper has added in a few extra switches, one to the side of the LMB and an extra one behind the mouse wheel. This gives you a little bit of wiggle room for adding macros and other shortcuts. They’re perfect for gaming, hardly huge game changers, but still beneficial overall.

RGB

Viper has upped their gaming when it comes to lighting too. The quality of the RGB is very good and offers plenty of customisation. I like that it adds plenty of colour to the mouse, without being too over the top. The colours are vivid, but not so bright that you find them distracting while working or gaming.

Should I Buy One?

At this price, you really can not go wrong with this one. The evolution of Viper mice has been moving fast, and their latest is easily their most competitive to date. It has strong competition from the likes of Razer, SteelSeries and Logitech budget ranges, but I think it’ll go head to head with any of them all day long. Recommended!
