Amazon confirmed that its Kindle First and Kindle Fire HD 7 tablets will have 2 new features: “Voice Guide” and “Explore by touch”. According to Kindle’s VP, Dave Limp, they heard from many customers who are visually impaired who claimed that the kindle made a difference in their lives and that with the Kindle Fire HD’s 8.9″ screen and some other models included, the 2 features as well as optional text colouring and adjustable font sizes really does make a difference for their visually impaired customers.
Kindle was able to integrate this by teaming up with text-to-speech software provider Ivona and the application will feature voice-guided menu navigation, large font sizes, high contrast mode, keyboard navigation and accessible shortcuts. The text-to-speech software on Kindle will be with adjustable voice settings for those who have external screen reader programs installed on their PC.
