The AS SSD software determines the performance of Solid State Drives (SSD). The tool contains five synthetic and three practice tests. The synthetic tests determine the sequential and random read and write performance of the SSD. These tests are performed without using the operating system caches. In Sequential tests the program measures the time it takes to read a 1GB file to write respectively.

Naturally we won’t be expecting SSD type speeds from the VelociRaptor, however pushing out just short of 200MB/s is very impressive for a mechanical drive. The other thing we will note is the very low access time; which when compared to our Seagate Barracuda drives that are a typical desktop storage drive, we see times drop from 15ms read and 24ms write to around 7ms all round for the VelociRaptor.
