XPG Core Reactor 850 Gold Power Supply Review

Efficiency

Given that the XPG Core Reactor is a gold rated power supply, it clearly has to provide a pretty hefty level of efficiency performance to meet this remit. Admittedly, ‘Gold’ isn’t the highest rating available, but it’s an excellent level for the vast majority of consumers in terms of accessibility and price.

So, with this in mind, how did this power supply do? Well, easily achieving an average efficiency rating of around 93%, this is massively in excess of the ‘Gold’ requirements listed on the packaging. In fact, the performance was so good that it could very nearly throw in a claim to being ‘Platinum’ which is the 2nd-best efficiency rating there is. Despite not quite being good enough for that level though, what we can say for certain is that this is an exceptionally high-end ‘Gold’ rating! And that, just in case you didn’t know, is a very good thing!

PFC (Power Factor Correction)

Starting with a reasonably slow PFC result at 20% (which, incidentally, is not uncommon for the vast majority of power supplies), the moment you start asking this to work harder, the figures ramp up very impressively. With it consistently achieving over 0.95 at the 45%+ output area, the delivery of the power is exceptionally strong!

Voltage Regulation

Showing only a minimal degree of movement over the full load tests we conducted, the single most impressive aspect of these results is how amazingly low the average deviancy is. With the maximum result being only 0.72%, this is exceptionally good and perhaps some of the best results we have ever seen from any power supply we have encountered so far.
