Software
Once installed, I was surprised to see that it was stored under ‘FPSGun’ on the start menu and not ‘Zalman’ as I was expecting. After the configuration panel has loaded – which will require a restart – you will be faced with a rather grey looking box. In fact it looks like it should belong on Windows 95 or earlier.

There are 4 pages to the software, the first being ‘Buttons’, which as expected allows you to set the commands of the 5 main buttons – the 6th (DPI switch) is not programmable. The options for each button is limited to just ‘left and right clicks, scroll, forward and back and double click’ which seems a major flaw. On the on bottom of this page is the Double-Click Speed option which is similar to the standard Windows options.

The second page is called ‘Wheel & Pointer’ and allows you to adjust the scroll speed, the pointer speed, the pointer acceleration and a click box for setting automatic pointer placement on or off.

The third and most interesting page, the ‘Advanced Settings’, allows you to set 3 DPI settings. For low DPI the options are 400/600, for mid DPI 800/1000/1200 and for high DPI 1600/2000. You can also adjust the polling rate down from the default 1000 Hz. A nice feature that has also been added allows you to adjust the x-axis and y-axis speed options giving you tailored movements for your game. There is also a very limited profile setting option, allowing you to select pre-set profiles.

The fourth page, ‘Updates’, is not a page; it is in fact a hyperlink which will load Zalman’s website update page.
