ZOTAC’s GTX 1080 PGF Edition Looks Incredible

GTX 1080

After much speculation, NVIDIA finally unveiled the new GTX 1080 graphics card and surprised users with the launch price. Apparently, the GTX 1080 will be more powerful than two GTX 980’s in SLI while costing $599.99. This is significantly cheaper than critics expected and looks likely to sell incredibly well. Of course, there are “founders editions” which have a $100 premium and initially caused some confusion about what these actually entailed. Many thought the founders cards referred to chip binning which explains the much higher asking price. However, it’s just a simple re-branding exercise and the new name for reference cards. This is fairly baffling because aftermarket versions usually have better cooling solutions and enhanced power delivery. Today, Zotac unveiled their new extreme range entitled, PGF which stands for Prime Gamer Force.

The PGF models are designed to replace the Extreme series and feature the best possible components. Images acquired by VideoCardz show the new Zotac GTX 1080 PGF graphics card which includes a thick illuminated backplate. On another note, they’ve also been working on the FireStorm application which allows you to alter the core clock, boost, memory clock, fan speeds and LED illumination. It’s even possible to use wacky LED effects and add an unusual twist to your build. Here we can see the memory clock is set to 5650MHz which equates to an effective speed of 11.3GHz.

Judging by the images so far, the Zotac GTX 1080 PGF looks incredible and I’m really fond of the illuminated backplate. It will be fascinating to see how extreme cards will fare in terms of overclocking ability and raw performance compared to the reference model. Whenever the custom variants are released, we should have some comprehensive coverage about their performance.

Are you looking forward to seeing the GTX 1080 benchmarks once they arrive?
