2024 Power Supply Buying Guide

As many of you will know, we recently invested in a new power supply load tested. Our old one served us well until it decided it didn’t want to test power supplies anymore, blew up, and started a new career as scrap metal instead. Alas, this was a good thing in the long run, as it meant we could invest in something seriously more robust, with more features, and that’s significantly more capable of testing more powerful units. If anyone releases a 4500W power supply in the next few years, we’ll be able to test it!

With that in mind, I’ve finally been able to work my way through many of the latest power supplies from all the major brands, and spoiler alert, I have quite a lot more power supply reviews coming in the near future! Of course, this all means we can now include those with the new ATX 3.0 standards and the latest PCIe 5 12VHPWR connectors and really put them through their paces. However, while single PSU reviews are one thing, it’s still not easy to know which brand is right for you, or which of their products would be best suited to your particular requirements. With this, I’m hoping to highlight the strengths of some of our favourite brands, be quiet!, Corsair, MSI, Thermaltake, DeepCool and XPG, to help you better find the thing that matters to you most. Is it value for money, efficiency, ripple, stable transients, having the most OP and expensive PSU you can, or even all of the above?
