When I first looked at the real world results, I was wondering if this drive really had what it takes to be right up there with the big boys of the SSD world. Now for some parts this can be regarded to be the case and yes if you’re after a drive with blistering fast sequential read and write speeds then this wouldn’t be the drive for you. Where this drive does pick itself back up is with its overall price point and thus its back for buck appeal. At around £75/€94/$117 the drive offers up 6Gbps performance at a highly affordable price and notably for first time SSD users, storage at well under 70p/GB.
Going back to the factor of bandwidth, it all comes down to what data you will be working with. Most applications out there today use compressible data and in this part the drive is able to pit itself against the top dogs, but when things get tough and incompressible data comes into the game, then this is when we see the drive suffer in respect. If its raw speed all round that you’re after then sadly this won’t be the drive for you.
As part of the amazing value of the S510 and its bundle the inclusion of the Acronis Utility Key adds extra value to the bundle along with the drive adaptor. Bottom line with this drive is if you’re new into the SSD market and you don’t want to be spending out what can seem a lot for something that you’re not sure if you need then picking this up will certainly give you that little boost, especially for the majority of users who only use their systems for light tasking and could do with a little more speed at a reasonable cost.
