Alpenfohn Matterhorn Pure CPU Cooler Review

Installation of the fan is pretty simple and uses a pair of simple fan clips which attach into the screw holes and onto some notches on the heatsink.

With the fan added the Matterhorn Pure is actually a very chunky unit, it certainly looks like it will block some RAM slots.

The installation process for me begins by preparing the backplate for the LGA 1155 socket with screws and rubber fasteners.

Next you add spacers to the attached backplate.

Then you secure the backplate and brackets in place with some thumb screws.

On the back everything is well insulated with rubber and plastic to prevent short circuiting or scratching.

RAM clearance is essentially a no-go. It blocks the first slot and is very tight with the second. On more compact motherboards the second RAM slot would be fully blocked.

As you can see the Alpenfohn Matterhorn Pure is a bit of a beast when installed.

I actually like the look of the Alpenfohn Matterhorn installed on the test system, especially for such a budget CPU cooler it looks pretty good and certainly doesn’t look budget at all.
