ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX502GW Laptop Review

Price

As this is a high-specification laptop coming from one of the biggest brands, it’s hardly a surprise to hear that it isn’t inexpensive. At the time of writing the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX502GW retails for a price in the region of £2,499 – (circa $2,399).

While that might seem a bit expensive, in comparative terms (based on the usual laptop prices) it isn’t as terrible as it might seem. It is, after all, arguably one of the most powerful laptops currently on the market.

Performance

Despite the pretty hefty price tag, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX502GW clearly has the performance to back it up. For a laptop, ASUS has tried (with some success) to emulate a level of performance usually reserved for desktop systems.

The benchmarking results speak for themselves. This is a very strong laptop and arguably one of the most powerful currently on the market. Noise levels are a problem, then again, they always would be for a system carrying this level of hardware.

Design & Aesthetics

In terms of visual aesthetics, it’s hard to find any fault with the ASUS ROG Zephyrus GX502GW. It is perhaps a little bland for some peoples taste, but that’s entirely the image that ASUS goes for with this branding. It’s meant to be sleek, strong and professional. A factor that is clearly represented in both synthetic benchmarks and gaming.

The slim design, however, does highlight one of the main key points of the laptop and, ironically, its main key weakness. While the slim and lightweight design does make it very attractive, there is a clear trade-off to be made in both noise and temperature performance.

Should I Buy One?

ASUS appears to be clearly marketing this specific model of the Zephyrus S for the hardcore professional. It does, however, strike a very strong balance between the working professional and the gaming enthusiast.

There is very little argument that this laptop doesn’t hold significant advantages in many areas of both work and play and frankly, would be ideal for someone who wants a reliable working companion who is capable of fun when you clock off for the day!

Admittedly, I would’ve preferred to see some better temperature levels as noise is perhaps the only key detracting factor from this laptop. For general usage, however, this will never be an issue.

Pros

  • Design and aesthetics to suit all needs
  • Exceptionally strong performance in both work and play
  • One of the few laptops featuring an Intel 9th-gen processor
  • The processor, graphics card and huge amount of RAM really compliment each other well
  • 1TB of NVMe storage is lighting fast and more than big enough!

Cons

  • When working hard, this gets hot and noisy!

Neutral

  • A price tag that will only appeal (or be possible) for a very limited customer base
