Graphics Cards

ASUS TUF Gaming RX 5600 XT OC Review

How Much Does It Cost?

At the time of writing the price wasn’t 100% ready in my hands. However, this being an AMD custom card and not a reference once, it would be safe to assume that it’s a little higher on the scale than most. That being said, the performance is very competitive and so long as it’s around the same as an equivalent RTX 2060, I think it’s a pretty good deal.

Overview

AMD has had a bit of an uphill battle to fight over the last few generations of graphics cards. Well, maybe even longer than that actually. However, despite Nvidia having the horsepower crown for some time, AMD does trade blows pretty well in the mid-ranges. Clearly, that’s true of the RX 5600 XT too. I found the 5500 XT a bit of a wet flannel as far as graphics cards go, it just didn’t line up for the price. Fortunately for AMD, ASUS and less so Nvidia, the RX 5600 XT is pretty bang on the money.

Performance

The RTX 2060 and the RX 5600 XT seem like a pretty good match up. In some games, the AMD card is a bit faster, in others Nvidia is a little bit faster. However, I suspect the new BIOS is set to close the gap on any titles where Nvidia has the lead.

Make no mistake though, this is a pretty robust gaming card. It’ll blitz 60 FPS at 1080 Ultra in just about anything. It’ll push around 90FPS and well above using high settings as we did too. Clearly, 1080p just isn’t as much the benchmark as it used to be.

For 1440p gamers, you’re getting great performance too. The RX 5600 XT made quick and easy work of everything we threw at it. Admittedly, Ghost Recon Breakpoint still runs like trash, and Metro is forever demanding, but that’s true for other graphics cards too.

4K gaming isn’t off the cards either, so long as you don’t mind dropping down to medium settings, as you could hit 30-45 FPS easily enough. That may not be a pro-gamer prime performance, but if you’re playing single-player games like Tomb Raider on your TV with V-Sync on, it’ll honestly be just fine. Not to dismiss older games from just a few years back, which are remarkably easy to game at 4K these days.

Should I Buy One?

Nvidia has a shiny advantage over AMD right now, Ray Tracing. I can’t dismiss that, and neither should you. However, it’s not the be-all-end-all at this price range, and when it comes down to it, both cards perform great and the ASUS cards, and other AMD RX 5600 XT’s, are priced pretty damn competitively right now. I spy a price war on the horizon, I really do. If you’re an AMD loyalist though, and you have a need for a new GPU, their latest graphics card is one of the best price and performance ratios they’ve offered in years.
