Initialisation and First GUI View

There is more than one way to initialize your new ASUSTOR NAS. You can either use one of the mobile apps for iOS or Android, or you can use the ASUSTOR Control Center desktop application. I’ll be using the latter as I got a Windows 10 mobile.

Initialisation

The ASUSTOR Control Center desktop application will automatically detect all ASUSTOR devices on your network. Getting started with the initialisation is as easy as selecting the device from the list.

The initialisation wizard will start in your default browser. The whole thing won’t take much more than 10 minutes. Minimum user input is required, which means that it’s nothing to worry about.

The first step will check for updates to the system. It might not necessarily be the newest version, but you should do it anyway.

The update won’t take long after which it will partition and format the OS partition.

Now the actual setup continues, and this is where you’ll start if you skip the initial update.

The 1-Click Setup is extremely convenient. With it, you only have a single page with information to fill out. You need to give the NAS a name and set the administrator password. You’ll also need to decide how your installed drives should be set up.

Now, the NAS will apply your settings and get the installed drives ready.

The last step is another optional one where you can register the NAS to an ASUSTOR ID. It is a free service, and it is one that can make it a lot easier to connect to remotely later on.

Welcome to the Graphic User Interface

After the initialization is complete, you’ll be presented with the actual user interface. When you first start the NAS, you’ll also be presented with a welcome guide. This guide will teach you the basics of the NAS and operating system. Of course, you can just close it if you want.

The system is ready now, but we’re still on ADM 2.x. ADM 3.0 is available, so we’ll head to the settings and update that next.

ASUSTOR Data Manager 3.0

With the update to the latest version, you’ll get all the benefits and a fresh new look.

More features and improved widgets are also part of the upgrade.

More of the User Interface

This was just the initialisation and a first view on the NAS. We got a brand new dedicated page for a complete view of the OS and its features. Instead of showing you the same again and again in every review, more or less, we now have a general OS article for every NAS brand we review. That will save a lot of time on the creation of each NAS review which in return allows us to bring you more quality content, more reviews, and more unique articles.

You can check out our view on ASUSTOR’s ADM 3.0 by clicking here.
