Chieftronic PowerUp GPX-850FC (850w) PSU Review

Efficiency

Given that this is a gold-rated efficiency power supply, it clearly has some rather high remits to fulfill in those regards. So, is it gold-rated? – Well, as can be seen in our test results below, the Chieftronic PowerUp GPX-850FC easily manages to provide results well within the accepted levels of that rating. In fact, at 20% and 100%, the overall efficiency rating is substantially higher than it had any requirement to be. Throughout all of our testing, the lowest score we reported was 90.3% which is remarkably high and, as such, the Chieftronic PowerUp GPX-850FC really knocks the ball out of the park in terms of efficiency performance!

While not quite falling into Platinum territory, it does come remarkably close at points. As such, while it is Gold, what we can say is that it’s a very high Gold.

PFC (Power Factor Correction)

Although starting off a little on the low side, which isn’t uncommon for any power supply at the minimal output, once the demands are cranked up, the PFC results for the Chieftronic PowerUp GPX-850FC are exactly what you want to see. While not giving us anything beyond what we would anticipate from any power supply of this type/quality, it is at least reassuring to know that the PFC is perfectly normal! Which, by proxy, means good!

Voltage Regulation

While there was a little overall deviancy throughout our testing results, one of the biggest key highlights here is undoubtedly the consistency. Regardless of the overall load output, the voltages supplied across the rails are amazingly solid. Particularly on the main (and arguably most important) 12V rail which, as you can see below, provided amazingly close scores.

Yes, the -12V rail does come in a little under, but this isn’t anything to worry about. Why? – Well, firstly, because this rail isn’t largely that important in modern PC systems, but more so, while falling a little short, it’s still well within acceptable levels.
