The Cooler Master MasterCase H500P is a big chassis, so it comes with a big price. Rocking up at around £130-140, it’s a big investment, but you do get a lot of show and a lot of go for your money. Considering it’s built to house a few thousand £/$ worth of hardware, it seems like a fair price to me. It is also competitive with most other enthusiasts E-ATX chassis on the market.
The Cooler Master H500P gets a lot right, if anything, it gets too much right, so much so that some of its strengths are also its weaknesses. Featuring a PSU shroud really cleans up the build and keeps things looking super slick on the interior. However, it’s mounted a bit clunky with multiple screws that make the installation a bit of a fuss, I’m sure they could make it easier.
The cable routing is extremely good, and getting neat cables is a breeze even for first-time system builders. However, I can’t wrap my head around those rear cable covers. They screw over the cables to keep them looking clean, which is great. Of course, you can’t flipping see them anyway, so a good idea, but a tad overengineered in my opinion.
The tempered glass window looks fantastic too. The front and top plastic panels don’t look cheap at all on their own, but they have obviously different visual characteristics compared to the side panel. They’re more prone to dust and scratches too. I wonder what a solid front panel or full glass would look like.
The RGB fans are stunning, but no built-in controller is a kicker. Sure, many motherboards support RGB themselves, but where’s the direct link for Cooler Masters own RGB software? Cooler Master themselves make one of the best on-cable RGB controllers for their CPU coolers now, so why not include it?
All those issues are not deal breakers, they’re truly not. You’ve seen the final product, and it’s jaw-dropping. The design is truly unique and makes one heck of a visual impact. If you’re looking for a high-performance, high-airflow chassis for enthusiast level system builds, you’ll find it here. With extensive water cooling support and those super quiet 200mm fans, you’ll be able to push your rig to the max.
Cooler Master aimed high with this one, and for the most part, they’ve pulled it off. With a few nips and tucks, I’d be throwing our Editors Choice at this. However, it’s still a fantastic chassis that’s sure to excite the gaming market, and well worthy of your attention, so I’m happy to give it our Gamers Choice award as a thumbs up for it looks like a total badass.
