Cooler Master MM712 Wireless Gaming Mouse Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Cooler Master MM712 Wireless Gaming Mouse is available now with an MSRP of £79.99, which is a reasonable price given the killer hardware this mouse features and its flawless performance. However, at the time of writing, it’s actually listed for just £59.99 for the white one, but £70.83 for the black one, and that’s a really good price for such a feature-packed mouse. It’s still about on par with some rival offerings, but I’ll be damned if you can get a better mouse for the same money.

Overview

It’s great, go buy one, I’ll put my feet up, have a coffee and knock off work early today…

OK apparently, I need to type more. Honestly, I cannot fault this mouse, Cooler Master has knocked it out of the park. I don’t want to sound like a Cooler Master Shill either, as around £60-80, it seems like all the major brands are top of their game with mice these days. Sensor and switch technology continues to deliver flawless results in recent years, and the battle now mostly comes down to connectivity, build quality and aesthetics.

Connectivity

The Cooler Master MM712 is marketed as a wireless mouse, but it really does work in USB wired mode too, and that’s likely to appeal to those in eSports tournaments concerned about any interference or battery issues when there are many gaming systems in one room. However, I had no issues with 2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth or USB modes. Plus, while there’s a cable included, I tried my own aftermarket USB-C cables, and they worked just fine too, giving you loads of options. Battery life is nuts too, you get up to 80 hours in wireless, and 180 hours in low-power Bluetooth modes.

Build Quality

The mouse is certainly greater than the sum of its parts. However, the use of a fantastic PixArt PAW3370 optical sensor, which can deliver 19K DPI, 400 IPS and 1000Hz polling (125 in Bluetooth), with 50 G acceleration, it’s worthy of use in the office or a world-championship eSports tournament. The switches are optical mechanical, which use a laser as the switch for extremely fast response times. The feet are PTFE, there’s all that connectivity stuff, there’s the built-in on-the-fly tuning features, and more. However, the most impressive thing is the full clamshell body design, while retaining the ultra-low weight of the older honeycomb body design.

Should I Buy One?

If you’re looking for a class-leading gaming mouse, the Cooler Master MM712 really ticks all the boxes. With a comfortable, lightweight, and featured-packed design that offers up extensive connectivity and customisation options, you’re going to struggle to find a better mouse for the same money. Highly recommended!
