Corsair HS70 Wireless Multi-Format Headset Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Corsair HS70 Wireless Gaming Headset is listed on the Corsair website in the US for $99 and £99 in the UK. It’s often a little cheaper on Amazon if you can find stock and deals too though, albeit at the time of writing it was out of stock for this edition. No big surprise after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. However, there is also an attractive white version for the same price.

Overview

Corsair has given us a few takes on this design over the last couple of years, and they’re right to do so, as it’s one of their best yet! It’s not as “gamer” looking at their Void series, and I’d argue that it’s all the better for it too. Maybe I’m just becoming a grumpy old man, but I don’t want my headset to look like a gaming headset with RGB on it. I want something I can comfortably wear at home, at the office or even on the bus, I just want a good looking headset that works everywhere. The HS70 manages to pull that off quite well I think.

The build quality is rock solid, and if I’m honest, I wouldn’t have expected anything less from Corsair these days. They’ve got one of the most reliable and well-made product ranges on the market today. Sure, they’re not perfect, but they’ve certainly maintained an impressive and strong reputation for quality overall. The HS70 uses durable materials, everything feels well put together, it doesn’t squeak and rattle. Overall, it’s a great quality headset that should withstand a good few years of abuse.

While not the best sounding headset in the Corsair range, it’s hardly lacking in audio thrills. The wireless performance is flawless, and I can’t say I had any issues there. Being able to plug in a USB-C cable is nice, as that means very fast charging, even while playing. However, you can also use it for USB audio, which is a huge advantage. You can use a 3.5mm jack to hook it up to your phone or anything with an audio jack, so there’s not really a lot it won’t work with.

The sound quality is decent, with a nice punchy bass response and plenty of clarity and volume when you crank it up. There’s no complex processing or anything bundled here. However, I have been using it with Dolby Atmos Headphones (available in the Windows Store) and it responded fantastically, so you can get a good surround mix out of it too.

At this price range, Corsair is right on the money for price, quality features and performance. Rival offering are broadly the same at this price range, and while I wouldn’t say this one is better than the competition, it’s perfectly competitive. The main advantages for this one, however, is that it’s a great looking headset, and the USB-C charging support is always a welcome addition too.
