A Closer Look
First impressions of this keyboard are pretty promising. It’s obviously lighter feeling than the more expensive mechanicals from Corsair. The new switches are less complicated, and there’s a bit more plastic in the box, but otherwise, it looks like a high-end Corsair keyboard. That’s thanks in no small part to the black anodised aluminium top panel on the keyboard, which looks utterly fantastic.
The key caps don’t look quite as premium as what we usually see from Corsair, but they’re still pretty great. They have a nice large font to them to let light through too. However, they’re also a little short on the sides, so that the switch is a little more exposed.
Up on the top row, you’ll find some additional functions. Of course, you use the FN-Shift to adjust these.
You can control the overall lighting brightness, as well as your media volume.
There’s also the main multimedia controls here, which are always welcome.
Other than that though, the keyboard is pretty stock. Everything is where you would expect it and all the basics are covered.
It’s a full-size design, obviously, but I do appreciate that they’ve kept the bezel quite slim and the keyboard feels relatively compact compared to the flagship Corsair keyboards, which are pretty enourmous.
There are a few cost-saving measures, such as more plastics and that’s clear by the overall weight of the unit. Even the Corsair USB header is plastic rather than metal like on the more expensive models. That’s fine of course, it still looks and feels great!
On the underside of the keyboard, you’ll find two rubber grips at the front and two more at the back.
IF you deploy the feet, there are small rubber strips on those too.
The caps do use a standard Cherry mount, but keep in mind they are slim caps.
What’s interesting is that the Viola switch users a box design as well. This is great though, as it keeps the caps a lot more stable, and I do like this design overall. It also gives them more surface to illuminate around the switch and cap.
