Performance

First up, this is a Corsair keyboard and I’ve already got the caps off, so let’s start with what they do best… RGB! The lighting is really nice actually, and while it’s not throwing out as much vibrancy as their Capellix hardware, it’s still very competitive.

The colours are rich and offer plenty of brightness. This is partly due to the frosted switch housing and the fact that much of the switch is exposed above the chassis of the keyboard.

The caps have shorter side walls, allowing more of the switch to be exposed, providing an additional downlighting effect.

As for the switches performance, they’re unlike anything really. They’re fully mechanical, let’s not beat around the bush on that one. However, they’re much more simple in design and behave like a spring-loaded plunger switch. So you get that membranical keel, but because the switch IS mechanical, there’s no rubber dome muddyness when you depress the key. It feels pretty great actually, and their return rate is really fast.

The force is a little higher than say… MX Red, but it doesn’t feel overloaded and the travel distance is a tiny bit shorter, so they basically compensate for their own shortcomings. If this is a sign of what we can expect in all affordable gaming keyboards in the future, I’m all in.

They’re not quite as smooth or refined as a Cherry MX gaming switch. However, they’re certainly smoother, sharper and more responsive than membrane, and a step up from plunger switches too.

Plus, just look at that per-key RGB doing its thing. Really good switch and colour separation here, it doesn’t mix too much and that gives you the chance to make some really bold patterns and effects.

The light catches the aluminium really well too, giving it a nice diffusing effect.

Overall, it’s one damn fine looking and performing keyboard.
