Cougar 200K Keyboard & 200M Mouse Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The Cougar 200K keyboard is available from retailers for around £30.00, which is excellent value for money given the overall quality and features that it offers. The Cougar 200M is available for around £23.00 from most retailers, but I have seen a few deals offering it for as low as £20, which is also excellent value for money for a mouse of this quality.

Overview

The Cougar products I’ve tested today are very easy to sum up, they’re both perfectly reasonable peripherals, with relatively average performance, good build quality and tidy aesthetics. Where they really set themselves apart from the competition is with their price. For a budget setup, these are great options and anyone who is feeling a little light in the wallet will find them very agreeable.

The build quality on the mouse isn’t the greatest in the world, but it’s certainly better than you would expect given the price tag. The performance is pretty standard stuff and while there’s nothing impressive to shout about, there’s nothing especially bad about it either. This is an average mouse with a budget price tag and that’s no bad thing, especially if you don’t have the £60+ it costs to buy a high-end gaming mouse.

The Cougar 200K is certainly the star of the show. While I wouldn’t recommend it to those who only use their systems to game, I would certainly recommend it for those who spend more time writing emails, browsing Facebook and gaming for an hour or two on a weekend; so pretty much everyone with kids and a full-time job. It looks fantastic, it’s really nice to type on and the backlighting is by far some of the best in the sub £50 price bracket.

Overall, two perfectly reasonable products are wallet friendly prices. Cougar has done great things with their high-end gaming products and they’ve done a great job on their budget ranges too.

Pros

  • Competitive price
  • Respectable performance
  • Nice aesthetics
  • Cool backlighting (keyboard)
  • Braided cable on the mouse

Cons

  • Not idea for extensive gaming
  • Mouse doesn’t glide well on padded surfaces (hard cloth recommended)
  • No braided cable on the keyboard

“Cougar is gaining a great reputation for creating competitive products and the 200 series is a prime example of this. They may not set the world on fire with their performance, but the quality you get vs the price you pay is sure to leave a smile on your face.”
