DeepCool AK620 Air CPU Cooler Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The price of the DeepCool AK620 does seem to currently be varying quite significantly depending on what retailer you’re looking at. By and large, however, the average value does appear to be in the region of £49.99. A cost which, for a 100% legitimate high-performance air cooler, is very tempting indeed!

The DeepCool AK620 is definitely a huge step up from cost-effective/entry-level cooling solutions while certainly trading blows with not only high-end air coolers from big-name manufacturers but also, in many respects, 240mm AIO liquid coolers, which, as I’m sure you’re aware, carry a significantly higher price tag than this!

Overall, I think the DeepCool AK620 represents some excellent value for money!

Overview

Both in terms of aesthetics and performance, I really like the DeepCool AK620. I think this is a product that really swings for the fences and, in many respects, gets very close to not only being a high-performance air cooler but legitimately competing with some of the biggest names around. – Don’t get me wrong though, I’m not waxing lyrical over this cooler. I do believe that this could represent some problems with certain consumers. The biggest being, as noted earlier in this review, a possible RAM compatibility issue if you have rather chunky modules.

Additionally, and please note that I say this very rarely, I do kind of wish that the top cover plates to the radiators had a little ARGB lighting. The DeepCool AK620 looks fantastic without it, but with a little subtle lighting, perhaps even just to the logo or perimeter, I think this could really take this product to the next level. – On the whole, though, I think it’s a small gripe to have.

Should I Buy One?

I honestly had to think for a while before I wrote this conclusion. Not because I don’t think the DeepCool AK620 is an excellent cooling solution, but more so because I really struggle to ascertain exactly where this resides in the grand scheme of ‘high performance’ air coolers. – This isn’t on the highest level in that remit, but it comes so very close in practically every regard. I really have to respect DeepCool for taking a big swing at the fences with the AK620, and while the metaphorical ball perhaps doesn’t quite make it, for the price this is available for, it’s very nearly as good as many big, big, products while coming in at a significantly lower price tag. – I don’t think you would feel any buyer’s remorse for choosing the DeepCool AK620 as a less-expensive alternative. I don’t think that this will suit all users and their respective tastes, but for an affordable and potent cooling solution, this might very well represent my underdog story of the year!

Pros

  • Excellent design quality throughout – DeepCool has clearly put a lot of thought and effort into this product
  • A truly legitimate ‘High Performance’ cooling solution that comes very close to beating some of the best out there (from the world of air cooling)
  • Amazingly quiet at stock levels while providing exceptionally good temperature control
  • Fantastic value for money
  • Quite visually appealing for an air cooler where the vast majority of models have to use ARGB lighting as a crutch
  • Definitely some potential for moderate overclocking. Albeit, with a compromise of slightly higher noise output.

Cons

  • There could definitely be some RAM compatibility issues if you occupy all the DIMM slots on your motherboard and/or have rather chunky modules (over 4cm tall).

Neutral

  • The fans did appear to create a rather annoying hum when our test system was overclocked. This didn’t present itself at stock levels though.
