GAMDIAS Aegis Multi-Function Gaming Set Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The GAMDIAS Aegis is a little under £20 from most major retailers; this is more than twice as expensive as most standard 4-port USB hubs, but the Aegis comes with a unique mounting system, headset stand and mouse bungee all included in the price, making it very good value for money overall.

Overview

There isn’t really a whole lot to say about the GAMDIAS Aegis, it’s a fairly simple and straight forward device that does exactly what it says on the box. It’s a very practical product, it’s a simple USB hub for connecting up all your extra peripherals and devices, it’s a charging hub if you add an extra DC adaptor to it, it’s a handy headset holder and it has a cable bungee. On their own, these are all rather mundane features and functions, but the Aegis offers you a way to save desk space and money by combining them all into a single unit.

All of the GAMDIAS products I’ve used so far have been really well designed and the Aegis is no exception. It’s compact enough that it’s not distracting to have it mounted on the side of your monitor, it’s got some aggressive gaming aesthetics so that it doesn’t look boring, but it’s just understated enough that it should match up with the majority of monitor designs and a mixture of desktop environments.

The build quality is nothing fancy, as the bulk of the unit is made from lightweight plastics. I had my concerns that the 3M strips wouldn’t hold it in place on my screen, but four weeks later and it’s still locked firmly in place. The headset mount is durable and is handy for keeping your headset within reach. It’s certainly a lot better to hang your headset on the Aegis, than to just chuck it on to your desk or on top of your chassis when you’re done gaming.

Pros

  • Simple yet functional design
  • Four USB ports
  • Can add extra power for charging
  • Mouse bungee
  • Easy to install
  • Headset mount
  • Good build quality
  • Looks cool
  • Affordable

Cons

  • 5v power adaptor not included

“The GAMDIAS Aegis is a simple and affordable accessory that combines several practical uses into a single unit; it may not be as exciting as their gaming headsets, mice and other peripherals, but it’s still a great thing to have at your disposal and a great way of keeping your desk a little more organised.”

  1. USB 2.0 only ports in this day and age? Granted that standard is still good enough for most but it rather limits it’s appeal.
This is just another take on Roccats Apuri and Cooler Masters Skorpion.
