Horror games have been a staple of gaming for longer than I remember, ok not all of them scary but the theme remains the same, the finest examples of horror games though shouldn’t be classed any different than a good horror movie, by which of course I mean ones that are actually scary to play and are capable of making you jump out of your seat, maybe not literally, but a really great horror game should at the very least have some sort of physical or psychological effect on you.
The best of these tend to lean more toward the survival horror genre, games where you feel at more of a disadvantage against your enemies, with death staring you in the face, or in this case, a return to your previous checkpoint, so let’s start by taking a look at some of my favourite horror games of the last few gaming generations.
