GeIL ORION 16GB 3200MHz DDR4 Memory Review

How Much Does It Cost?

Unfortunately, this memory kit wasn’t available on Amazon just yet. However, I did find some great deals at Newegg, who have the kit on sale for just £52.99 down from £67.99. Of course, if you want to invest in the fastest or larger kits, you’ll need to pay up. However, it’s only £58.99 for the 3600 MHz set, and £91.99 for a 3000 MHz 32GB kit! Check them out here.

Overview

Memory prices seem to be in freefall right now, which is great for consumers as just a few years ago prices were ridiculous. However, at these prices, the latest kit from GeIL is an incredible bargain. This level of quality and performance, as well as broad options on speed and timings, is nothing to sniff at. Plus, I love that they don’t have RGB, I love RGB but not everything needs it. A choice of black/red and black/grey gives you some visual choices, but I think the red really pulls ahead in the looks department.

Speed

The performance of this kit was pretty solid, it hit the market of what we would expect from a 3200 MHz kit. Honestly, it didn’t have any surprises good or bad. It’s not the fastest 3200 MHz kit, it’s just perfectly competitive. However, at these prices, you won’t find me complaining. The kit did manage a small overclock, which had mixed results, but overall I’d be happy to post them at the default XMP. If you want memory that can push big overclocks, expect to pay a lot more for it really.

Build Quality

Top marks to go GeIL here, as these are some of the nicest made DIMMs I’ve seen in a while. There’s no big fins or anything on them, they’re just chunky metal heatsinks with a stunning brushed aluminium finish. The red looks amazing, and I really like the little ventilation holes. Plus, they’re really put some thought into that Orion logo design, it really stands out. Albeit, they should remove those Ryzen stickers, I know I will.

Should I Buy Them?

The price on this kit is fantastic, and even the higher performance and larger capacity kits are extremely competitive. Great aesthetics, reliable performance, and durable build quality all round. Highly recommended.
