Gigabyte P56XT GTX 1070 Gaming Notebook Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

The Gigabyte P56XT Full HD 15.6″ i7 GTX 1070 Gaming Laptop is available now from several major retailers. Currently, it’s in stock at Scan.co.uk for £1849.99, which is a lot of money, but you do get a lot of performance in return for your investment. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find accurate stock/pricing information for the 4K variant, but I would guess it would be a little over £2000. Gigabyte provides a two-year warranty on this system.

Overview

Obviously quite tricky to provide you with a comparison for this system. It’s the first we’ve tested using our revised and improved benchmarking suite. Of course, the numbers do speak for themselves, and it’s not hard to see that the P56XT is a powerful notebook that’s sure to fit your gaming needs.

The i7-7700HQ and the GTX 1070 are a perfect pairing for big performance. When it came to our gaming benchmarks, the P56XT blaster through the latest games with ease, and delivered frame rates well above 60FPS. This is a gaming laptop after all, and that’s without a doubt the one thing it is best at.

Gaming Isn’t Everything

While it’s true this is a great gaming notebook, it’s no slouch in other areas too. The blazing fast storage performance, combined with a quad-core CPU and fast memory go a long way. For day-to-day work tasks, browsing the web, editing images, and more, it’s blast through the workload. Of course, the mobile version of the i7 isn’t as powerful as the desktop parts. This means that rendering tasks and heavy computation workloads aren’t going to blow you away. However, it’s still fast at these tasks for a notebook.

Light and Sound

Equipped with punchy speakers and an IPS HD display, this is a great notebook to use for multimedia tasks and gaming. The display is crisp and offers rich colours and deep blacks. I didn’t notice any issues with backlight bleed either. While I wouldn’t be using this as my music hub blasting out music all day, enjoying a few YouTube videos or a movie while you’re chilling in the hotel after a day of meetings is certainly suitable.

RGB!

While not the brightest or most outlandish RGB keyboard on the market, it’s still a nice addition and great for working in a darker environment. Plus the RGB aspect gives it that gaming swagger that we know many of you love. However, for all its RGB thrills and blazing gaming performance, the P56XT still looks quite understated. It’s a bit of a sleeper, in that you could take it into work, use it day to day, then go play CS:GO when the boss isn’t looking; perfect!

Pros

  • Excellent gaming performance
  • IPS display
  • Blazing fast M.2 storage
  • Good quality speakers
  • Reasonably quiet cooler design
  • Competitively priced
  • Smart and understated design
  • Surprisingly slim and light for spec/price

Cons

  • Keyboard lighting could be a little brighter
  • Couldn’t find stock or prices for 4K variant

“The Gigabyte P56XT promises powerful gaming performance, and it certainly delivers. With the added bonus that it’ll look just as good in the office as it would for a LAN gaming night with friends.”
