Gigabyte RTX 2070 Super Gaming OC Graphics Card Review

How Much Does It Cost?

The Gigabyte RTX 2070 SUPER Gaming OC Graphics Card is available now. For up to date pricing information, please check Amazon here in the UK or here if you’re in the US. However, we do know the card should have an MSRP of around £494.99

Overview

With a name like SUPER on the side of them, the new Nvidia graphics cards have to be pretty impressive to live up to their own branding. Thankfully, they’ve certainly done that. They’ve exceeded the performance of the RTX 2070 cards that came before it, and in some testing even the RTX 2080 and the RTX 2080 Ti got a bit of a beating from the Gigabyte card. I mean, there’s no way to beat around the bush here, this is a bloody fast card, and that’s that.

Performance

When it came to 3DMark, we saw a score of 6019, which is a little behind that of the Palit RTX 2070 SUPER, but close enough for them to score side by side. That was also barely just enough to nip ahead of the new RX 5700 XT we reviewed last week. Synthetic benchmarks are only part of the picture though.

Looking at gaming, the card was trading blow with the RTX 2080 cards at all resolutions, even beating them a fair bit at 1440p. Ghost Recon saw the SUPER beat all but the RTX 2080 Ti, albeit the 2080 Ti is quite a bit faster, but the SUPER is still faster than everything else too.

I’m not sure what happened in Far Cry 1080p, where the Gigabyte Super scored even more than the 2080 Ti, then again, so did the Palit RTX 2070 Super, and you won’t hear me complain about that. It dropped a few places at 4K, but still scored about 60 FPS, so that’s a winner right there. Overall, I think gaming performance was exemplary and I’m sure anyone buying one will be very happy with that performance too.

Should I Buy One?

Gigabyte really is winning on many fronts here. The power consumption has gone down vs other RTX 2070 cards, as a result, they even run quite cool too, which also means it ran pretty quiet. Despite all of that, the performance saw a huge boost that I’m sure gamers will love. It also meant good overheads, allowing us to overclock and gain 5-10% performance improvement with minimal effort. Yes, the price is now higher, but for RTX 2080 level performance, it’s a pretty great deal too.

Pros

  • Big performance boost over the non-super model
  • Great warranty
  • Perfect for high FPS 1440p gaming
  • Ideal for 60FPS 4K gaming

Cons

  • None

Neutral

  • Quite expensive, but you pay more for more performance
