GPU Testbench Upgrade & Performance 2018-2019

Gaming Performance

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

The premiere of our Shadow of the Tomb Raider benchmark, showing some properly fantastic performance from the AMD VEGA 64 at 109 FPS at 1080p. It even beat out the RTX 2070’s with ease. We also saw the RX580 beat the GTX 1060 at the lower end of the charts. The VEGA cards did drop down the charts at higher resolutions though, although the 64 beat the GTX 1080 by a big margin at 4K.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

We’ve had this benchmark before, albeit with medium settings, now it’s on high and just as demanding as ever. The VEGA cards did really well at 1080p, and the VEGA 64 almost at 60 FPS even at 1440p. However, it’s the high-end Nvidia cards that maintain the top spots. Again, we know they’re faster, this isn’t a race to the top review, but a retest of existing hardware; keep that in mind.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands

Ever card scored over 60 FPS at 1080p on average, with only the GTX 1060, GTX 1070, and RX580 scoring a minimum below 60. All but the GTX 1060 and RX580 got past 60 FPS at 1440p too, which is impressive. However, at 4K is was the top two RTX cards that got close or over that hurdle, with the other cards lagging pretty hard.

Middle Earth: Shadow of War

Another new entry in our benchmarking routine is Middle Earth. It’s a tough game to run with some massive dips in FPS from its benchmark too (which we think is a scene transition glitch). However, the averages are all above 75 FPS at 1080p for all cards. Even at 1440p, every card was more than playable, with only the bottom few dipping a bit below 60. However, only a handful of cards got above 50 FPS at the much more demanding 2160p resolution.

Battlefield V

While we haven’t tested the full bank of cards for this game yet since its launch, we thought it would be good to squeeze in the figures from our Battlefield V GPU feature (here) for those that are eager to play this game.
