Lexar JumpDrive P10 32GB USB3.0 Flash Drive Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

With the 32GB model retailing for around £45 and the 16G and 64GB SKUs selling for around £35 and £85 respectively, they are by no means cheap drives. As we saw recently when I looked at the MX-ES SLC drive from Mach Xtreme, higher performance as one would expect does carry a higher price tag, but with this top level of performance and a price of just under £1.50/GB, the JumpDrive P10 is very much worth the cost.

Overview

As with a large number of products that I look at, the numbers do speak for themselves. Lexar state on their website that this is one of the fastest drives available on the market at this moment in time and I have to give it to them, they’re right. The only other high speed drive that I’ve seen in recent months is the 64GB HyperX from Kingston and having the speed factor on its side, the P10 has straight away put itself onto the winners podium on performance alone.

Performance is not everything however and I have to take the rest of the package into consideration. The metal alloy and plastic mix to the case give the drive some stunning looks and it is not often I feel you can say this about a mere flash drive. The gloss black plastic makes the drive look worth the money this costs and with it also being backed by a limited lifetime warranty, you have the reassurance that this drive is going to last you for a number of years before it will be due for replacement.

To round this review off, I feel that the top end of the USB 3.0 flash drive market is an area where many vendors try not to produce products for due to the higher price tags – especially when users want a flash drive that has the capacity whilst not worrying about the performance. If the market was filled more with drives of this calibre, however, then I would expect to see the price of USB flash storage to fall in due course.

Pros

  • High read and write speeds
  • Good 4K performance
  • Solid build quality

Cons

  • ~£45 price tag may still scare of some potential buyers

“The JumpDrive P10 is a fine example of a USB3.0 flash drive that offers top level performance, looks and capacity for a reasonable price. With the USB flash drive market flooded with drives, paying that little bit more will get you something that is future-proof whilst giving the performance and the capacity that we all long for.”
