Little Big Planet Karting PlayStation 3 Review

Little Big Planet has been a smash hit on the PlayStation and its hand held counterparts, but at the center of any popular game there needs to be a star and for LBP it’s Sack Boy. An almost blank canvas of a character for you to build upon with your own expressions and style to really make him your own. It’s this customization that I’ve always loved about LBP and its something that is thankfully still a big part of Karting. Not only do you still have the same level of control of choosing everything from the eyes to the teeth that was present in the other titles in the series, but you can also transfer your designs between games. This will no doubt come as a relief to those who bought costume packs for the previous games, its all good and it all still works!

This time of course, there is more than just a Sack Boy at play and the same level of customization has been carried over to your vehicles. While the game may be called Karting there is nothing stopping you designing it as a hover craft, F1 car, tractor, bumblebee and a lot, lot, lot more. Sure this makes absolutely zero difference to the performance, but it’s certain to entertain you for 5mins as you pick what kind of crazy engine noise you would like on your hover tractor.

Another big, if not the biggest feature of the series so far has been its creation kit. This allowed you to craft levels of your own and in many cases even make whole new game concepts within the world of LBP by using the intricate customization tools that the game offers. Now this edition may not be as dynamic as the tools in LBP2 but where I fail at putting together two track pieces, the gaming community has crafted tens of thousands of amazing creations already, doesn’t take long to find re-makes of classic Mario Kart tracks either.
