Little Big Planet Karting PlayStation 3 Review

The Little Big Planet series has been one of the PlayStation brands flagship titles ever since it was created, it’s one of those I personally regard as the best the system has to offer along side game like Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid (yes, I know its gone multiformat now), Gran Turismo, God of War and many more. So I really did have high expectations for LBP Karting to be a really top quality game, regardless of it being somewhat of a cash-in title or not.

In its own right it is a fun little game, it does offer a few hours game play before it starts to get repetitive in single player and its sure be able to entertain a wide range of age groups in different ways. Although its not really got the same kind of magic and involvement of the other two games in the series, it does them as much justice as it can for a spin off title. The best things this game has to offer how ever take a little more time to appreciate, if you can spare the time to learn a little of the level creation tools then you will find it can pay back in hours of entertainment, just don’t expect to have a replica of Spa in 5 mins.

The multi-player is another big aspect for this title and just like any other Little Big Planet game its even better with more friends involved, while it does support online play, you can’t really beat being shoulder to shoulder on split-screen and its easily one of my favourite aspects of this game. A little bonus feature is that the game supports PlayStation Move controller should you with to use the high tech arm waggler  not to everyone’s liking but for those that do own the device, it’s always nice to have more supporting titles for your hardware.

Overall I really liked Little Big Plantet Karting, but I still don’t think I’m going to be giving it an award. Sure its a good game, it’s entertaining and it has a good amount of content but I can’t help but think that the game doesn’t need to exist. There are no shortage of karting games on the market, many of which play, feel and look all that different to each other in my opinion, even the Mario Kart games are lacking that something special these days. Although if your a fan of Little Big Planet and want to continue enjoying the Sack Boy universe and enjoy the narration provided by Stephen Fry, then it’s still worth checking out this game. For everyone else this is an above par karting game, but it doesn’t offer much new to the genre aside from its track creation mode.
