Mach Xtreme MX-ES 16GB USB3.0 Flash Drive Review

Its been a few years since the introduction of USB 3.0 and whilst its a standard feature on a vast majority of systems these days, the number of storage devices that are built for the standard is not as great as we would have like to have seen by now. Granted there is a good selection on the market to chose from, but in respect to USB 2.0 drives, its a surprise that there isn’t more. Last year we took a look at Mach Xtreme’s MX-GX 16GB flash drive and whilst we liked its styling and slim build, we were a little disappointed by it resulting speeds.

Over the last year or so, Mach Xtreme, one of the industries leading storage manufacturers, has been working on a new line of drives and the result of this work is the MX-ES line of drives that we are looking at today. The MX-ES features high quality Single Level Cell (SLC) NAND flash memory and is available in capacities of 8GB, 16GB and 32GB with read and write performance of upto 170MB/s and 185MB/s respectively on the 32GB models.

Now that the era of USB 3.0 flash drives has well and truly set in, we are hoping that drives are becoming more and more affordable considering their larger capacities and better speeds on offer when compared to USB2.0, so with a set of features that look impressive, can the MX-ES really give good performance at an affordable price?
