Mio MiVue 658 WiFi Dashcam Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The Mio MiVue 658 WiFi Dashboard Camera is available from a wide range of retailers. We found stock all over the place with prices ranging from £130 to £160 and while we know the former is a better deal, we would be comfortable paying up to the £160 if it was a respected retailer, but here’s a Google link should you wish to price compare.

Overview

Improving your safety on the road is something that cannot be more important, and while I must admit that this camera will not directly do that, it can protect you from a few dangers, as well as a few speeding tickets and insurance scammers. Many of us have been in a car accident at one point or another, or at least may be in the future. If someone rams into your car, and it wasn’t your fault and they deny it, having video and photographic evidence to back up your claim can be the difference between a court victory or defeat. That being said, any kind of incident on the road can be monitored and your video can prove helpful to others. I love the fact that the unit has a battery built in, as being able to take it out of the dock to take pictures of anything, be that a lovely view or just the smashed tail light on the back of your car, it certainly has its uses.

The build quality on the MiVue is superb, the unit has a nice weight to it, feels fairly rugged and manages to remain nice and compact so that it doesn’t distract your view while driving. Being able to take it out of the dock, it’s small enough to put in your bag if you don’t want to leave it in your car while you’re out and about shopping. The only thing I would like to have seen here is a protective carry pouch to prevent it from being scratched when you remove it from the car.

The touchscreen is a nice addition, making it easy to get to all the required settings and while it’s not the fastest responding operating system, it’s unlikely you’ll be calling on the touch screen a lot other than the first day you setup the device. The WiFi transfer to mobile is really slow too, but again, it’s doubtful that this is a feature you’ll need often. I found it better to remove the SD card, pop it in my computers card reader and copy the files that way, much quicker.

Overall, a nice feature packed unit with a fair price that’s sure to make a welcome addition to your driving experience
