MSI Spatium M570 Frozr 2TB M.2 Gen5 SSD Review

How Much Does it Cost?

Obviously, being such a high-performance drive with a high-performance cooler, which is to say it’s the fastest and coolest M.2 on the market today short of any liquid-cooled solutions, it’s no surprise that the drive isn’t going to be cheap! But hey, if you want the fastest, then you get what you pay for. We’ll update as soon as retail stock lands with accurate pricing.

Overview

MSI is known for having some of the best hardware in the world, and with the release of the MSI Spatium M570 Frozr 2TB M.2 Gen5 SSD, that certainly still holds true today. It seems every few weeks or so, I test a new “fastest ever drive” but at these speeds, MSI is getting close to the full potential of what these drives can do. There are a few more extreme versions with even bigger coolers on the way that can push a bit closer to 14000 MB/s, but given how fast this drive is already, I doubt you would notice any difference in day-to-day performance.

Build quality is superb, and the premium design of the Frozr cooler is pretty incredible. Three huge heat pipes are running through a thick heatsink, and they’re flattened off to provide full coverage of the M.2 PCB. With all that cooling performance, it’s no surprise that the Spatium never exceeded 65c under full load, allowing it to maintain its incredible performance without compromise.

It can be tricky to install this drive, as the heatsink is just so massive it leaves little to no room to reach the locking clip/screw. However, your mileage will vary depending on the design of your motherboard. Of course, it’s not like you have to do that every day, so it’s a small inconvenience to get such killer performance.

I also think it’s aesthetically a great drive, with that heatsink having a cool-looking design, and the sand-blasted finish of the side cover being quite tasteful. They could have stuck a plastic shroud on it and crammed in some RGB, but I’m glad they didn’t, this looks so much better.

Should I Buy One?

I’m not sure if I can recommend this drive, as it’s far beyond what many people need. It’s big and it’s pretty expensive. If all you’re doing is playing Skyrim and trolling on reddit, then it’s complete overkill! But if you’re dealing with high-resolution assets a lot, rendering videos, and other content creation-related tasks, it’s a game changer. Sure, it’s expensive, but it’s extraordinarily fast too, and time is money!
