MSI Z87 MPOWER (Z87) Motherboard Review

To test this board, we are able to run all of our tests at stock speeds using a pre-defined setup of hardware. We will also be overclocking the processor to its limits on this board to see how it compares against the stock speed.

Test system:

  • Intel i7-4770k
  • Corsair Vengeance 1866MHz 8GB
  • AMD Radeon HD 7970
  • Corsair H80
  • Corsair HX1050
  • Kingston HyperX 240GB SSD
  • Patriot Wildfire 120GB SSD
  • Lian Li T60
  • AOC E2795VH

We would like to thank AOC, Asus, Corsair, Kingston and Lian Li for supplying us with our test system components.

Many different software applications are also used to gain the broadest spectrum of results, which allows for the fairest testing possible.

Software used:

  • 3DMark 11
  • AIDA64
  • Cinebench R11.5
  • CPU-Z
  • PCMark 7
  • Super PI

  1. A BMW owner eh? It looks like you’re not terribly fussy Andy. Lol. Jokes aside, I quite like the looks of this board and I never noticed the VRM heatsink was in the shape of a M. I wonder if it was done on purpose or just a coincidence. I’ll have to assume the former.
I see another batch of mobo’s have arrived at the offices for testing, this one being among them but I won’t be testing any of them. I’ll ship them off to the junior hacks for evaluation.

  2. Would like to see what can be done with an ASUS Maximus VI Gene, but that 5.0 ghz is impressive even if that voltage is pushing it a bit.

  3. Do you guys even proof read?

    Test system
    Asus Z77-A
    Intel i7-3770k?!?

And 5 Ghz windows stable on just 1.385 Vcore? Uh, no. What was your ring frequency and voltage?
