Noontec Zoro II HD Mobile Headphones Review

Performance

Looks are one thing, but performance is what really matters to me. Fortunately, it seems that Noontec have really brushed up on the technical side of things compared to their first edition Zoro headset. The audio quality of the Zoro II HD is very impressive overall. The bass is rich and detailed, the mid tones are nicely detailed and the treble is bright and clear.

I tested the headset out with a wide range of music and there was a clear benefit for electronic music. Fans of dance, dub-step and drum and bass will love this headset as it sounds like it has been well tuned to the kind of frequencies these styles of music rely on. The bright and clear sound is completely distortion free at all times and all volumes. This means that phone calls and music alike always sound great. Voices sound nice and clear, with natural tones to them; this also brings big advantages to pop-style music, or acoustic music.

I’m a big fan of death metal music, so you can bet there are a lot of thundering guitars and drums in my collection. While the smaller drivers of the Zoro II HD don’t give me the low-end grunt my music desires, the clarity still bodes well for most guitar heavy music.

The microphone is nothing exceptional, but it’s certainly on par with everything else in this price range and it actually sounds better than the stock microphone on my test handset, the Sony Xperia Z1. If you were planning on using this as a combination of headphones and a hands-free kit, then you won’t be disappointed. With the added bonus that it is lightweight enough to wear it most of the day with no discomfort.

As a child still in my 30's (but not for long), I spend my day combining my love of music and movies with a life-long passion for gaming, from arcade classics and retro consoles to the latest high-end PC and console games. So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
