NZXT Low Noise Microphone Boom Arm Review

A Closer Look

The NZXT Boom Arm is much like most boom arms, in that it allows you to mount your microphone on one end, and allows you to clamp the other side to your desk. This means you can move the microphone around in a 3D space at will. Pull it close to your face, move it away, move it up, move it down, or shove it off to the side when it’s not in use; pretty straightforward stuff, sort of.

Starting at one end, it comes with a durable metal clamp with a threaded screw. This can accommodate a desk of up to 5cm thick, so pretty much any desk should be fine unless you’re using logs for a desk.

As you can see, it simply slides onto the desk, then I tighten it up, and it’s good to go.

Above that, you have the female part of the mount, as you can quickly install or remove that longer part of the arm here without the use of tools. This means if you really need the big part out of the way of your desk, you can do so without too much trouble.

Already, I can see and feel the overall quality difference with the Boom Arm. I’ve used a few of the cheaper ones on Amazon in the past, and they’re pretty much what you would expect. Lightweight rods and external springs, which get the job done, but they’re pretty basic.

This is a single rectangular reinforced tube on the exterior. All the springs and stuff are hiding inside, giving it a much cleaner and more professional look overall.

The same with the joins, they’re very clean looking, with no external cables, springs, bolts, etc.

What Ido love, however, is this deep channel that runs down the middle. It’s going to allow you to take your audio cable, XLR cables, etc, and tuck them deep inside. Then there’s a bung that goes into the top, locking the cable in place and out of sight.

At the other end, we get to the microphone mount. Again, it’ll work with the NZXTmicrophones, but since it’s an industry standard screw fit, you could use a wide range of adaptors, brackets and other fittings to put all kinds of stuff on here if you so desired.
