Final Thoughts

We have now reached the end of our overclocking guide with the Gigabyte R9 270 and I certainly hope that the guide is useful to lots of people. As we’ve demonstrated there is a good amount of extra performance to be had from some overclocking that takes merely an hour or so. From our results we found that around 10-15% was possible but your results will vary based on a lot of factors: the type of GPU in the graphics card, the quality of the silicon and so on. The process that we’ve demonstrated couldn’t be much simpler, even for the most basic PC user. All you have to do is ensure your system is correctly configured in terms of hardware and cooling and then download a graphics overclocking utility and tune clock speeds alongside stress-testing utilities. Through this process you should be able to find the highest stable overclock and get some free performance.

Alongside demonstrating the overclocking process and some performance numbers we’ve also tried to explain the theory behind overclocking such as why you want to overclock your graphics card, the risks involved and how to overcome those risks. The theory element is probably the biggest obstacle for most people: once you grasp what graphics card overclocking is, how safe it is and how simple it is to do there’s really nothing holding you back. Thank you for taking the time to read this overclocking guide and if you have any comments, criticisms or questions related to the content of this guide or graphics card overclocking in general then please feel free to share a comment below.

Thank you to AMD for providing the graphics card to make this overclocking guide possible.
