PATRIOT VIPER VENOM DDR5 32GB 6200MHz Memory Review

DDR5 is still relatively new, considering it launched along with Intel’s Z690 chipset and Alder Lake Core processors back in November last year and while at its inception it didn’t seem to offer much in terms of performance in comparison to DDR4, it was wildly more expensive and beyond reach for the majority of consumers and PC gamers. Much like DDR4 and DDR3 when they launched, it needed time to mature, pricing to settle down and just become a viable alternative for those wanting to upgrade and be on the bleeding edge of technology, and stay ahead of the curve.

While we’re only a mere 5 months from that initial launch, we’re starting to see exactly that happen. Speeds are getting better, prices are settling down and with word that AMD’s new AM5 platform will also adopt the standard, it’s going to become more of a necessity than a luxury, for those wanting the latest platform, whether it be Intel or AMD.

Patriot Viper Venom

So what do we have here today? The first DDR5 kit we’ve seen from Patriot Viper, dubbed “Venom”. Now I know instinctively you’re thinking about the Marvel Vigilante played by Tom Hardy, but the naming convention goes with the theme of the Viper Gaming branding that Patriot have been building up for the last couple of years. Now, what separates this memory apart from the other kits we’ve looked at, is that it’s fast. Like, really fast.

While we’ve taken a look at, and tested 4800MHz and 5200MHz kits from the likes of Corsair, ASGARD and SK Hynix, the Venom DDR5 32GB kit we have here today, blows them out of the water, at least on paper, and this was a big sticking point for a lot of consumers. 4800MHz, 5200MHz, they just didn’t push the envelope enough, when comparing to high-end DDR4 kits. At 6200MHz though, I think it’s safe to say that the results should be extremely interesting and now actually give consumers that viable option we spoke about.
